If it is a Forge mod (and the .zip file is the mod), you can put the .zip file in the mods folder. A .jar file is just a .zip file with a different name (rename a .jar to .zip and see what happens).

1. run "java -jar [forge installer jar here] --installServer" in a separate directory just for your server files 2. run "mkdir mods" in the same directory as your forge installation 3. put any mods in the new mods folder 4. when ready to run your server run "java -Xms512M -Xmx3G -jar forge- [forge version here]-universal.jar nogui"
